november's creative ventures

From making wedding jewelry for new friends to hosting baby showers & thanksgiving - here's some fun photos from my month.
Excuse me if they are poor quality - I'm posting from my phone & have no idea what they will look like!

a bit 'o sewing

I made an infinity wrap dress and a peter-pan collared blouse at least a month ago and failed to post the pictures until now.
It's so handy to have a mother who can show me how to sew!

Please excuse the quality (or lack there of) of my crappy camera phone (don't judge me because I can't afford an iphone)

Here's my fabulous $3 shell earrings I found in San Diego

The collar didn't turn out that great, but I made the whole thing without a pattern, so I was pretty proud regardless.
Oh, and here's my sewing area...
it needs a little TLC, but the wall looks neat, right?

touch of mustard

I was in need of some yellow earrings the other day and put these together:

baby shower

We had the great privilege of hosting our dear friends' co-ed baby shower at our house last Saturday.
I had a blast making and arraging the decor for our get-together.

Much of what I used I already had or bought colored construction paper to create,
so it was beautiful & thrifty - just my taste!
::wink::wink::

Again, my photos are just taken with my phone, so they don't quite do it justice, but you can get the idea nonetheless.

I found this general idea off Pinterest, though I kinda just got inspired there and cut these out of the paper I got for my garland project below; it says: "Grow Wise Little Owl"
Suitcase was my grandma on my dad's side (carried around her avon from it for years), coffee pot was my great-grandma's on my mom's side (borrowed from my mum), wooden lantern made by my uncle for my cousin's wedding (awesome, right?)

The two on the right are avon.

Birdcage given to me by an old employer, vase from the Muellers, scrap fabric from making pillows; chalkboard in the background has a quote from the song "My Eyes" by Travis, along with Andrew's famous chocolate chip cookies. YUM!

Salt shaker we got at Buffalo a while back

Paint swatches from Ace, stamped with instructions for purses/presents, awesome card we bought from a neat new store in the mall called Typo.

Tissue paper flowers (big thanks to Loretta for letting me use her already made orange ones!), white plastic table cloths from dollar store we already had up from Emily & Sara's birthday party.

Got this idea off Pinterest, quote from Tracy's Pinterest Board: "you & me are meant to be"

These little birdies are old avon soaps, so stinking cute!

This was project I found off Pinterest: Dixie Cup Garland
My gift wrapping job; I found these little baby spoons at the antique store, just loved them!

little of this, little of that...

I haven't been on this for a while, but I've got lots of fun stuff I've made and/or arranged in my house in the last couple of months, so here ya go!

We have this closed up old window opening in our kitchen wall (now there is a closet on the other side) so I decided back in January to chalkboard paint it. Usually it's where I'll write out my verses for the month:

Here's our new kitchen table we got with christmas money; LOVE it!

I got new glasses last week! Fun!
I went to a bridal shower for my friend Lauren yesterday and this is what I made for her (coat hanger, craft wire, chain and bead) and below is its wrapping:
Yes, the bridal shower was the same day as our party and I was already dressed for it:
Since our community group is so awesome, we celebrated "may the 4th be with you" & cinco de mayo together. I was able to live out a childhood dream by dressing up as princess leia, with a little mexican/western twist:
What was so fabulous was that I've had this dress sitting in my closet for years not knowing what to wear it for! My aunt wore it to my parent's wedding in 1979, though it was more like a shapeless maxi dress when she wore it (preggers outfits back then weren't nearly as stylish as they are today) I cut off lots of fabric and shortened it up:

With my remaining birthday money, I bought myself a vanity chair (that sounds weird, but I don't know what else to call it!):

It's summertime and the summer quilt has been put on the bed; the bedroom, like the rest of the house, is always a work in progress, but I feel like my little corner is looking better these days:
Got some inspiration to make earrings this afternoon; vintage/mixed metal fun:

My hubby bought me a great bowl center piece thing for my birthday and today we found these cute salt and pepper shakers @ buffalo exchange:
And that is some of what I've been up to art/craft-wise as of late...
