Sewing & Crochet

Since I also enjoy creative forays in sewing & crochet, I thought I'd post my project from today & a past project I did a few months back:

today; spiffy new bible cover:

(front)

I had two pieces of fabric that I took off a dress from my grandma (yes, I might have aquired almost everything I own from her...) So I sewed them together, spray mounted them onto my bible & then sewed around the edges to finish it off.

(back)

a while ago; crochet beret:

I found the pattern for this online (somewhere I apparently forgot to bookmark). It's just a simple single stitch for the band & chain stitch pretty much the whole way through.

ta-da!

Chain Mail

Little did I know when I answered the phone at my job this morning, I would later learn a new skill because of it! My new job at the bead shop has paid off already in knowledge.

I learned to do some simple Chain Mail today (intricate chaining that was once used to make suits of armor, now also a jewelry style/technique) all because a customer came in wanting some instruction.

My boss had a book I got to copy some pages out of and here's my own take on a simple earring pattern, with some autumnal colored czech glass beads thrown in:

September Romance

Since I'm always making earrings, I thought I'd post some of the necklaces that I've made recently. Both of the pendants for these are pieces from old decorative pins. Pins aren't really super fashionable anymore, so they've got some new life as pendants:

Leaves & Feature

My earrings (the ones below) are featured in an etsy summer/fall transitions treasury! <-- Go check it out!

Before I knew this was featured, I had a hankering to make another pair of wire leaf earrings.

I think it'd be a challenge to find someone who loves fall more than me. And since in Tucson, it doesn't feel quite like fall until November, we pretend with accessories, decorations & drinking hot drinks by the air conditioner.

I got the inspiration for these from my note pad, which has autumn leaves on it:

I love the way these turned out!

And some more things I've made in the theme of autumn:

I made this necklace a while ago using another old watch of my grandmother's.

These guys are for sale on my etsy already, but they're among my favs:

Hope you're inspired to start enjoying the approaching season, whether it's already feeling like it outside or not!

Teir-ing Apart

This will be a short one, as I've spent more time today re-vamping the look of the blog than actual blogging!

The week is almost over and I realized that my weekend will be a busy one! Birthdays, work, & a show with our band! So I'm hurrying to get this one posted before I make me & my hubby some delicious cauliflower & cheese soup for dinner!

This one is, again, something I took apart from different pieces I got from my grandma's costume jewelry & some that I found in an antique shop in Mitchell, SD a couple summers ago:

It's slightly on the dressy side & goes wonderfully with any of my outfits with open necklines!
